Urban Sports Week Amsterdam will begin April 28 with an opening program including a talkshow, dance performances by ISH Dance Collective and drinks. At the Westergasfabriek speakers from urban communities, public administration and corporate sector will discuss developments in urban sports.
At the Westergasfabriek Neal Hendrix will speak about developments in urban sports, drawing from his experiences as a professional athlete and sports marketing.
Neal Hendrix is a true skateboard legend. For 25 years he has been a professional skateboarder. In this period he has seen the skateboarding grow from a niche sport to a professional industry.
He won five medals at the X Games and had a role in the closing ceremony of the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. He is still one of the best halfpipe skateboarders in the world. Last month he won the prestigious Vert Attack competition in Malmö, Sweden.
Although he's still active as an athlete, currently Hendrix is closely involved in promoting the sport as well. With the International Skateboard Federation (ISF) he is leading the effort to get skateboarding included in the Olympic Games.
Hendrix is also reporter for the Vans Parkseries, the Dew Tour for NBC and X Games for ESPN. He is brand manager for Camp Woodward, a training facility for aspiring and professional action sports, gymnastics and cheer athletes from around the world, including current and future Olympians.
Access to the official opening of Urban Sports Week Amsterdam is upon invitation only.
