During the opening a taste was given of the action which can be expected over the coming days in Amsterdam. Marco Gerris, director and choreographer of ISH Dance Collective created a special show for the occasion, combining urban sports and dance.
Special guest at the opening event was the US pro skater Neal Hendrix. The world famous skateboarder has been a professional for 25 years. During Urban Talks he spoke about efforts to get skateboarding included in the Olympic Games. The American is closely involved in talks with the International Olympic Committee as a board member of the International Skateboard Federation (ISF).
“Urban sports are growing worldwide,as does the level of the talents. More and more brands are discovering the scene, but it’s still about performing something unique.”
Amsterdam alderman for sports Eric van der Burg took stage at the Westergasfabriek to announce the dancers of ISH Dance Collective. “Urban sports are a perfect fit with this city. Amsterdam wants to offer a platform to these sports as the city is a playground.”
