“Amsterdam has got plenty BMX riders and some great BMX history was written here. It’s time to write some history again”, says Soulcycle BMX shop owner Koen de Groot.
De Groot is organizer of the Soulcycle BMX Championships during Urban Sports Week Amsterdam. The kick-off of the championships will take place on Friday April 29 at 2:00 PM with a big flatland contest at the Westergasfabriek. It was at this venue that Soulcycle organized the Flatground BMX series many years ago. This has made the Westerpark a memorable place for the flatland scene around the world.
For park riders there will be a big contest on Friday as well. Just a few blocks away from the Westergasfabriek, at the Marnix Bowl the BMX Championships park will take place. The venue has been extended with some new obstacles especially for USWA, offering park riders the chance to show their best moves and transfers.
Saturday it’s time for some dirt. At Roest the riders can chill and ride as much dirt as they want. Good vibes and competitions of the highest level are combined. Roest is a place where fans and riders can party until the sun comes up.
Sunday May 1 is the last day of the Soulcycle BMX Championships. Riders will get together for a unique street contest. At a temporary course at the Museum Square riders can show their best street skills.
All BMX events during Urban Sports Week Amsterdam can be visited free of charge.
There is over €6000 of prize money at stake. BMX riders who want to take part can register via www.soulcycle.com. Participation in the contest is free. Riders can compete in one or more disciplines. In each of the four disciplines there is one class.
