For the first edition of Urban Sports Week Amsterdam TIG Sports, the city of Amsterdam and Topsport Amsterdam worked closely with local communities, urban organizations and sports federations.
“It has been a hit. For many of the involved organizations it was the first time they were part of a larger platform. This could not have been realized without the support of Amsterdam, Topscore Amsterdam and the launching partners T-Mobile, Smart and Sony Xperia”, said TIG Sports’ Marnix Drysdale.
Drysdale: “The enthusiasm of all involved has only grown further. Over the last couple of days the city was really bustling with urban sport. More than 100.000 people have been in touch actively or passively with urban sports this week. We are already looking forward to an even larger edition in 2017.”
Spectacular urban sports like BMX Dirt, 3x3 Basketball, freerunning, skateboarding, boulder and inline skating didn’t only attract a lot of viewers. The event also promoted physical activity among youth, which is a target of the city of Amsterdam.
“These were fantastic days with urban sports. Across the entire city we’ve seen great achievements on skates, BMX bikes and boards. It’s a good initiative of TIG Sports and Topsport Amsterdam. This new event is an asset for the city. Personaly I think a tradition is born”, said Amsterdam alderman for sports Eric van der Burg.
