With approximately 100.000 visitors of the 47 different events the first edition of USWA was a great success. In 2016 more than 4500 athletes participated in 16 different urban sport disciplines.
This summer Amsterdam will again be at the centre stage for the very best of what urban sports has to offer. Over a period of five days a variety of urban sports events will be held across the city. Wednesday July 5, the Urban Sports Week Amsterdam will be launched in spectacular fashion.
In 2017, the Urban Sports Week will have strong international appeal. The events will take place at striking, central locations in the heart of Amsterdam. This year an extensive and exciting evening program will take place at various locations throughout the city.
The exact composition of the program will be announced this spring. BMX, Inline skating and skateboarding will again be three of the main events during the Urban Sports Week Amsterdam. An important place in program has also been reserved for various dancing activities, such as dance battles. On Saturday July 8 a party will be organised for all participating athletes and fans.
In hosting the Urban Sports Week, the city of Amsterdam shows what it has to offer as urban sports city. Athletes are given a stage to show their skills to the public. Moreover fans have a chance to see the best national and international athletes in action.
The Urban Sports Week Amsterdam aims to promote physical activity among children. In 2016, 50 schools participated in the Urban Sports Week in some way. By the Topscore program set up by the municipality of Amsterdam 75% of secondary schools in Amsterdam covered urban sports in the weeks leading up to the event.
